Ribblesdale Wanderers 'Sportsman's Dinner'

This year saw us taking on a new challenge for fundraising at Ribblesdale in the form of a 'Sportsman's Dinner', which proved to be a tremendous success. 

The event took place on Friday 21st September at the Stirk House Hotel in Gisburn.  It was unconventional in its approach as we welcomed members of both sexes to the evening.  At first, one or two of the weaker sex (men, of course!) frowned upon the idea but on the night, several gentlemen remarked to me that they wish they had brought their better halves.  In total, 225 people attended the event; around 25% of whom were ladies. 

After a delicious three-course meal, we were entertained firstly by the newly appointed Lancashire CCC cricket manager, Mike Watkinson and then by top class comedian Mike King.  Both speakers were highly entertaining.  Mike Watkinson's speech was full of cricketing anecdotes and amusing stories about his cricketing career whilst Mike King had the whole audience in stitches from start to finish with his rapid fire cheek and jokes.

On behalf of our small committee (Barry & Tracey Spencer, Vikki & Craig Hall, Russell Menzies, Graham & myself) who organised the event, I would like to thank everyone that helped us to make it such a great success.  We could not have done it without your support.  I would particularly like to thank the local businesses who either sponsored tables for the evening or who donated raffle and auction prizes.  The list of companies is below.  To all who attended, thank you for your support and I hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did.
